Youth Ministry?
Youth Ministry may be defined as:
“The response of the Christian Community
to the needs of young people
and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth
with the larger community.
It is the ability for youth to minister to
and to be ministered to by the community which they are in.
It is the recognition of the unique talents and gifts of
youth by the community, while, at the same time, the young people are made aware of the community and their role in it.”
The Eight Components of Youth Ministry
Advocacy:
Giving youth a “voice” and empowering them to address the social problems they face.
Catechesis:
Sponsoring youth toward maturity in their Catholic Faith, fostering youth in a communal identity as Catholic Christians and helping youth develop their own personal faith identity.
Community Life:
Creating an environment which nurtures meaningful relationships among youth and between youth and adults characterized by Gospel values, helping young people feel like a valued part of the Church community and providing opportunities for social interactions.
Evagelization:
Proclaiming through word and witness the Good News of the Gospel to youth and inviting youth into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Justice, Service and Peace:
Guiding youth in the development of social consciousness and empowering youth to “make a difference” grounded in the Life of Christ.
Ledership Development:
Recruiting, training and supporting youth and youth leaders in promoting positive development and faith growth.
Pastoral Care:
Caring and providing positive youth and family guidance as youth face decisions and moral choices.
Prayer and Worship:
Assisting youth in deepening their relationship with Jesus
